The mortal remains of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be kept at BJP Headquarters in New Delhi from 9 am to 1 pm for final tributes. Vajpayee’s last rites to be held at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal at 4pm.

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee passes away. He was 93. In a bulletin released at 5:30 pm, AIIMS offcials said that the former prime minister passed away at 5:05 pm on 16th August. He was admitted for the last 9 weeks. His condition deteriorated over the last 36 hours.
The then advisor to former PM Vajpayee, Ashok Tandon, has said that Vajpayee has been an inspiration for many and people are praying for his health. People in India & outside are praying for him. Entire country loves him. Present generation of politicians draws inspiration from him.
AIIMS to Issue Health Bulletin Soon | Union Health Minister JP Nadda has said that AIIMS will release the routine bulletin soon. He added that Vajpayee’s condition remains critical.
Leaders Throng AIIMS | A number of leaders cutting across party lines today prayed for the recovery of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajayee, who has been admitted to AIIMS and is in a “critical” condition. They said he was a leader who wanted to take India to heights that were unmatched by any other country in the world and was a source of inspiration. Senior BJP leaders L K Advani, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, party president Amit Shah, Shahnawaj Hussain, Manoj Tiwari, Anurag Thakur, Vijay Goyal, Udit Rai, Prakash Javedkar, Harsh Vardhan visited him at the hospital.
The BJP patriarch had last visited Prini in 2006. Villagers still remember how he used to mingle with them as a family member. Some are proud to be his neighbours while others feel blessed to have him as their fellow villager. “We used to frequent his house whenever he paid a visit to Prini. We never felt like we were meeting the prime minister of our country. He met us like any other villager would do. He too visited our houses quite often. We hope that he recovers and gives us a chance to meet him again,” said former head of Prini village, Kundan Kumar.
“He is our idol. With just his presence we got inspiration and encouragement, we pray for his health, no one can ever be like Atal Ji, campaigning for him was an honour for me,” Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan was quoted as saying by ANI news agency.

Tripura governor Tathagata Roy had tweeted that Atal Bihari Vajpayee had passed away. However, the governor apologised after realising his mistake and claimed that he had seen the information on a TV channel. He has since deleted the tweets
Union minister for drinking water and sanitation Uma Bharti has said that she is worried about Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s deteriorating health condition. She said that Vajpayee created the Bharatiya Janata Party and nurtured it. Prayers for Vajpayee’s recovery have poured in from politicians and countrymen alike.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar expressed his concern over Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s deteriorating health condition. “I am praying to God for his recovery,” he said in a statement. He added that he has received love and guidance from Vajpayee and had the opportunity to observe the minute details of his life. He also said that Vajpayee was like a mentor to him.
India is praying for Vajpayee with ‘havans’ being conducted in his hometown Gwalior and Lucknow, the constituency he represented. Prime Minister Narendra Modi may pay a second visit to Atal Bihari Vajpayee at AIIMS. Since morning BJP veteran LK Advani, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, BJP chief Amit Shah and other Union ministers have been visiting the hospital. Several BJP chief ministers, including Yogi Adityananth and Sarbananda Sonowal, are also bound for Delhi. The CMs were to start arriving in the national capital from today for BJP Nationa Executive Meet on August 18-19.
